2023 Hermann's Vineyard Shiraz

$35.00

100% whole berry ferment and is aged in a mix of seasoned French (50%) and American (50%) oak barrels for 14 months before final blending and bottling.

Ripe black forest fruits and spice are balanced by rounded tannins and seamless structure. The medium-bodied palate reflects the nose with flavours of cedar, stewed fruit and cigar box.

A pleasant lingering finish with some vanillin oak notes with hints of mocha and tobacco. The wine has a fresh, vibrant palate with good depth of flavour and nice layering of fruit.

94 points Mike Bennie WBM - Chunky, rich and ripe; a dark berry, mocha dusted, woody spice-laden red of impeccable balance for its thicker set frame. It does lavsih richness and general sense of vitality well, with appropriate to variety and region oak influence. The opulence of the wine impressive and the texture is super soft and flows long and beautifully. DIG IN WITH A SPOON!

92 points Winepilot Ken Gargett - The colour here is a deep magenta, while the nose exhibits notes of warm, dusty roads, black cherries, bay leaves, ripe plums and dark chocolate. This is a silky, finely rendered Shiraz, with a supple texture and very good length. The palate sees those bright, black cherries really come to the fore. There is a fine line of acidity running the length. This wine is an eight to ten year proposition, over which time it will surely improve further.

92 points The Real Review Huon Hooke - Deep, bright red-purple colour with a graphite, pepper and ironstone bouquet, a serious shiraz, and the palate echoes this with brightness and intensity, liberal tannins framing the finish and some attractive varietal spiciness. Good balance and drinkability as well as some ageing potential.
